Visualization
Visualization is the ability to generate and receive images in the mind by which the person processes visual mental images. A trained practitioner guides the person to evoke mental images that create sensory perception of sights, sounds, tastes, smells, movements, and touch. The imagination takes over to produce images, and other sensory dialog that creates positive messages for the client or patient. These evoked images are for specific outcomes. For patients desiring relaxation, images of nature, water, mountains, valleys are prescribed for patients. The practitioner leads the patient by suggestions. Then sounds of birds, soft music may be elicited to promote greater feelings of calmness, and relaxation. When using visualizations, the practitioner will guide the patient into having strong feelings of being there with the birds, forest, flowers. These emotional feelings of being there contributes to the emotional change needed. Visualizations are intended to promote psychological changes, shifts that can alter the biophysical aspects of the patient. Daily repetition with intention and attention by the client/patient will promote faster results that will be lasting and permanent in most cases.
Visualizations can be used for athletic performance, stress management, and as an adjunctive modality for people desiring behavioral changes. Contact Dorothy today to discuss how visualization can help you.
